How to Prep Your Skin for your Workout
Believe it or not, your workout can work for your skincare regimen. The key to cashing in on the benefits of a good sweat reside in prep. Before you dash off to your Margo’s class, take care to set yourself up for success with a pre-workout skincare routine. Where ever your workout falls into your day-to-day, pre and post skin care is key to flawless skin regardless if you plan to shower after or not. Working out with dirt, debris, and even makeup can potentially cause harm to your skin if uncared for.
Cleanse
Even if you just woke up, wash your face. Cleaning your face with a gentle cleanser will clear your pores and rid your face of any bacteria and oils that might be trapped on your skin. These oils and debris could have been transferred to your skin from your hair and pillowcase or left over from the day before.
Mist
Hydration is essential to your workout as well as your skin health. A facial mist or essence will nourish and hydrate your complexion with its optimizing ingredients. Using a mist will refresh your skin and prep it for the hard work ahead. You’ll take care to exfoliate after your workout, now just focus on hydration and care.
Moisturize
Follow up with a light-weight, noncomedogenic moisturizer. Look for a moisturizer with humectants as ingredients to take advantage of your upcoming sweat. Sweat, after all, is a natural moisturizer.
SPF
No matter if your workout is indoors or outdoors, apply the most important protection-SPF. A quality SPF will protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays in addition to free radicals from pollution. Don’t worry about over-doing it. Your sunscreen will naturally wear off from sweat and when you wash your face after your workout. You’ll reapply.
Workout, rinse, and repeat. Follow the same 4 step skincare routine, or add in a chemical exfoliant before your mist or essence. Achieve glowing skin by taking care after and before your workout. Remember, it’s best to not let sweat sit for too long. If you’re not taking a full shower, take care to rinse cleanse the body with a towelette, change all layers (including your socks and underwear), and start your post-workout skincare routine to avoid bacteria festering.
