I Quit Botox Thanks to These Things I Had in my House
From the age of 24, I began getting Botox treatments. It all started as a pre-wedding preparation, a routine I believed would act as a preventative measure against aging. I was convinced that Botox would stave off wrinkles and preserve my skin's youthful appearance. However, as I paused my Botox journey due to my pregnancy, I discovered that not only were there no solid scientific backings of “preventative” Botox but also the dangers were far more serious and common than I was led to believe by society and my provider. Today, I'm proud to say that I am 2 years Botox-free. I’ve learned to truly embrace the aging process while working hard at keeping my skin moisturized, exfoliated, and supple! (Low-impact workouts obviously help too.)
1. Banana Peels: The Enzyme Exfoliator
Banana peels are a fantastic, natural exfoliator. They contain enzymes that help remove dead skin cells, leaving your skin smooth and refreshed. The enzymes in banana peels, particularly bromelain, gently exfoliate the skin, promoting a healthy and glowing complexion.
How to Use:
Peel a banana and keep the peel.
On a clean dry face, gently rub the inside of the banana peel on your face, focusing on areas with fine lines or dullness in small circular motions.
Let the residue sit on your skin for about 15 minutes.
Rinse off with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry.
Follow with moisturizer.
Using banana peels regularly has significantly improved the texture of my skin, making it feel softer and more vibrant without the need for harsh chemicals or expensive treatments.
2. Rice Water Essence: The Ancient Secret
Rice water has been a beauty secret in Asian cultures for centuries, revered for its ability to brighten and tone the skin. Rich in vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, rice water helps to improve skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of pores.
How to Make and Use:
Rinse 1 cup of organic rice thoroughly to remove any impurities.
Soak the rice in 2 cups of water for about 30 minutes.
Stir occasionally, then strain the rice, saving the water.
Transfer the rice water into a clean bottle and refrigerate.
To use, simply soak a cotton pad in the rice water and gently apply it to your face after cleansing. Leave it on until it dries, then follow with your usual moisturizer. This natural essence has become a staple in my daily skincare routine, leaving my skin looking radiant and feeling firmer.
*Pro-tip, soak rice paper sheets in rice water for an effective DIY sheet mask (Margaret does this daily during at-home office hours)
3. Beef Tallow Moisturizer: The Nourishing Powerhouse
Beef tallow, rendered from high-quality grass-fed beef fat, might sound unconventional, but it is incredibly nourishing for the skin. Rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, as well as essential fatty acids, beef tallow closely resembles the composition of our skin’s natural sebum, making it an excellent moisturizer.
How to Use:
Purchase high-quality, grass-fed beef tallow.
Gently warm a small amount between your fingers until it becomes pliable.
Apply a thin layer to your face and neck, massaging it in thoroughly.
Beef tallow has transformed my skin's hydration levels, helping to lock in moisture and protect against environmental damage. It's an all-natural solution that provides deep nourishment without the risks associated with synthetic ingredients. I use this moisturizer day and night. At night, all over my body and dressing in warm protective layers.
